TechnoRV has been using the Max Burton induction cooktop in our RV now for almost 2 years and WE LOVE IT! It was a gift for Tracey's birthday and we've used it everyday, twice a day since. In fact, I can't remember the last time that we used our propane cooker. Since we never use it, the cover stays on and we get loads of extra space in our kitchen.

So what do we like about the induction cooker?
  1. Since 83% of the energy is transmitted directly into the food compared to 30 - 35% for a propane cooker, it's SUPER FAST. At our recent TechnoGeek Learning Rally, Tracey demonstrated the cooktop by cooking Curried Parsnip Soup from start to finish in 20 minutes.
  2. That efficiency also means that the cooker won't heat up your RV the same as using your propane burner. This can be especially useful on very hot days and puts much less strain on your ac system meaning a cooler rig.
  3. Previously I'd always sworn by propane as I found it much more controllable than electric. However, the induction is EVEN MORE CONTROLLABLE. It reacts super-fast to changes in power level.
  4. The unit has a 3-hour timer which means that I can set it on low so that I can leave it on while we go out, just like a slow cooker. In fact, we never use our slow cooker (crock-pot) now.
  5. Best of all, I get to use the campgrounds power that we've already paid for rather than burning up my propane.
A word of caution though. The induction cooktop doesn't work with all types of pots and pans. They must be ferrous meaning that a magnet will stick to them. In fact, the unit comes with a little test magnet. Generally, cheaper cookware (e.g. from Walmart) will not work. We had a nice range of All-Clad and everything worked. If it has a nice thick heavy bottom, it will probably work. You can also use cast iron pans and skillets on the unit.

Here is some more information right out of the operating instructions:

What are the advantages of using an induction cooktop?
The induction cooktop plugs into a standard 110/120-volt outlet. With 1800 watts of power, these cooktops are nearly 50% more powerful than gas stoves and heat nearly twice as fast as electric cooking elements, yet they do not require high amperage electrical lines or 220-volt power.
Is induction cooking more efficient than gas?
The induction cooktop is 83% energy efficient. Gas burners are only 30-35% efficient and butane burners cost $1.65 per hour to operate. Operating an induction cooktop costs only 12 cents per hour.
Is induction cooking safe?
The induction cooktop creates heat only in the cooking pan. There is no open flame or hot cooking element. The ceramic top stays cool, except where it is in contact with the cooking pan.

How much electrical power is needed?
All single burner induction units designed for the U.S. market are capable of operating efficiently on a standard 110/120-volt outlet. However, since each unit will draw about (15 amps), it is strongly recommended that a dedicated outlet be provided for each individual unit being used.

Will it work with an inverter?
If you have a 2,000W or above pure sine wave inverter, then the unit will work. It will not work with a modified sine wave inverter (the unit with just cycle on and off), but it will not be damaged.

What type of pans can I use?
Pans made from ferrous metals such as cast iron, sheet enameled steel, or magnetic stainless steel work very well (see Section 3).

How does electric and induction cooking compare?
Induction units place the electrical energy directly into the cooking pan. Resistive electric cooking elements use energy to heat the elements and then through conduction, the cooking pan gradually gets hot. Resistive elements are very inefficient and not responsive. Induction cooking is very rapid and responsive to temperature control changes and even faster and more efficient than gas cooking.

Is it easy to use?
The rapid heating of the pan makes warming, sautéing, frying, and pasta cooking fast and easy to do. With no open flthe ceramic surface.

The induction burner we adore!!!  Katie has not even opened the cover for the propane burners since we got it, and of course she was delighted for an excuse to visit Ikea for new pans!!

Service and Quality December 23, 2013

We've been using induction for years and have been very happy with it.

The advancements that have been made in induction hot plates are surprising, until we bought these we had no idea of how much a great idea has been improved.

These are GREAT units and the flat to allows more flexibility and the griddle is quite handy.

As always,'s service in shipping is EXCELLENT!

Thanks Phil and crew, this made a great Christmas gift for my wife, even though a bit early.

I LOVE it!!!! March 2, 2013

We bought one of these units at the Tampa show in January.   I LOVE it!!!!  I have not open my gas stove since so this gives me so much more counter space for cooking.  It is going into our house when we get home and back into the coach when we return South.  Thanks so much for offering it at your booth.  We love working with the two of you.
