Oscillation and the WeBoost Destination RV

  • The WeBoost Destination RV cell booster has a 65 dB gain.
  • When an antenna has a high gain, oscillation could be a concern.
  • Oscillation can reduce or even eliminate any signal boost provided.
  • WeBoost included a 25-foot telescoping pole to assist with oscillation and antenna separation.

If you're looking for the max cellular signal boost for your RV internet needs, then you may want to check out the best RV cellular boosting kit from Weboost called the Destination RV. This unit is not for everyone, but if it is right for your situation, then it is a very powerful unit. The WeBoost Destination RV comes with a 65 dB gain amplifier, and an outside directional antenna. The FCC states that the highest gain that you can use while in motion is 50 dB. Since the Destination RV has a 65 dB gain, it cannot be used while in motion. This will be great for someone who is stationary for longer periods of time, but not for those who want a boost while on the road. Also, for those that like to boondock in remote places, this system will give you your best chance of getting a cellular signal to you.

The biggest problem we have seen in the past with the higher gain units and the directional antenna is something called oscillation. Oscillation is feedback between the outside antenna and the inside antenna. This scenario can cause a radio frequency loop that will kill the effectiveness of the system. WeBoost systems have automatic functions that assist to protect against the oscillation, but it will only adjust channels, or shut down channels that are experiencing extreme oscillation. If you are having an oscillation issue with the WeBoost system then it will signify this with flashing lights of varying colors, depending on the situation.

There are a few factors that contribute to the problem of oscillation: the power of the amplifier, the power of the outside antenna, and the power of the inside antenna. The more power these elements have, the more issues you can have with oscillation. The solution is simple: the more power you have, the more separation you must have between the outside and inside antenna. This is where a lot of RVers fall short. It is simple to just attach the antenna to a ladder rack or somewhere close to the roof line of the RV, but often this is not enough for a high gain cellular boosting system. What you need is ample horizontal and vertical separation. WeBoost has realized that most people will not put the proper separation between the antennas, so with the WeBoost Destination RV system they are including a telescoping pole that extends to 25 feet and collapses to a little over 6 feet. This antenna pole is really big, but it works. While I was testing the WeBoost Destination RV, I extended the pole to its maximum and I never had oscillation issues. When I lowered the pole, I started to have oscillation issues. The pole fits underneath my motorhome, but it may be a bit cumbersome for some RVs to store. The pole comes with a base and some 3M sticky tabs to make installation very easy. We will make videos soon of the new kit, and then keep an eye out for them to appear in our Cell Booster product section at TechnoRV. The retail price for the Destination RV is $649.00. This will include everything you need, including the telescoping pole.
